NEW YORK, May 4, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — AFS Intercultural Programs is pleased to launch AFS Global STEM Acceleratorsa virtual exchange program fully funded by scholarships, which aims to provide 150 young women from all over the world with access to education in the field of sustainable development, science, technology, of engineering, mathematics and social impact.

Applications are open to young women (aged 15-17.5) from around the world who aspire to become agents of change in their communities. AFS will also award scholarships specifically for refugees and girls from displaced populations around the world.

Giving young people the tools to build a more sustainable future

Through immersive learning experiences, beneficiaries of the AFS Global STEM Accelerators program will be able to acquire essential technical skills, such as digital skills, the creative process and understanding data, as well as soft skills, such as emotional intelligence, intercultural awareness and teamwork. These valuable skills are increasingly needed in the global economy and essential to building a sustainable future.

Over twelve weeks, students will develop social impact prototypes and synthesis presentations that offer potential solutions to real-world challenges, with a focus on sustainability. Upon completion, students will earn the Advanced Certificate of Global Social Impact Competence, awarded by AFS and the University of Pennsylvania, as well as official feedback and validation from the Center for Social Penn’s Impact Strategy. They will also be invited to join the AFS Global Alumni Community, which offers various mentoring and networking opportunities.

AFS Intercultural Programs is a nonprofit global exchange network with decades of expertise in the field of change-oriented education. “Skills such as cross-cultural communication, empathy and conflict resolution are essential for our world. The Accelerators program is part of the AFS Global STEM Changemakers initiative, a five-year grant that aims to provide 5,000 young people around the world with immersive learning experiences through science-based cross-cultural exchange programs , technology, engineering and mathematics, global skills and sustainable development.
