Apple is also preparing an update for the AirPods

A few days ago, during the opening keynote of its WWDC conference, Apple presented the new versions of its operating systems iOS, iPadOS, macOS and watchOS. Moreover, in addition to having presented these new versions, Apple has also deployed a first beta for developers. And a public beta, which can be tested by the general public, will arrive later.

Today we learn that Apple has also launched a beta for the software update of its wireless headphones and earphones. As reported by the 9to5Mac site, this new firmware, which developers can test now, is currently compatible with the second and third generation AirPods, the AirPods Pro, as well as the AirPods Max headphones.

In addition to improvements in the automatic switching of headphones or headphones from one device to another, Apple does not detail the new features that will be included. But Apple nevertheless tells developers that this beta allows the development of features related to AirPods on iOS and macOS.

Moreover, to be able to use the new firmware, it will be necessary to have a device under iOS 16, iPadOS 16, or macOS Ventura. Apple also warns that once this new firmware is installed, it will no longer be possible to go back.

“Once installed on your AirPods, beta software cannot be removed. Your device will continue to run this software until an updated version of the non-beta software is released. In the meantime, you will automatically receive all additional beta software updates as long as you have activated your AirPods to receive them by following the installation steps below »can we read on the portal for developers from Apple.

As 9to5Mac recalls, last year Apple released a beta of the AirPods software to enable iOS 15 features such as spatial audio for FaceTime, or ambient noise reduction. And the new beta that the firm has just launched will probably be used to activate the features related to AirPods on iOS 16.

Indeed, among the novelties of iOS 16, there is personalized spatial audio. As Apple explains, this feature “offers an even more precise and immersive listening experience. iPhone’s True Depth Camera helps create a personal profile for spatial audio that delivers a tailored listening experience. »

New AirPods would also be on the program

In addition to new software, Apple would also prepare new wireless headphones. Indeed, for several months, rumors have been circulating about new versions of the AirPods Pro that Apple would release this year.

According to the latest rumors, the next wireless headphones from Apple could be formalized this fall. The design would be radically different from that of the first generation AirPods Pro.

Indeed, the new design would no longer include stems and because of this, the AirPods Pro 2 could have an appearance close to that of the Beats Studio Buds headphones, also produced by Apple.

Naturally, improvements in the audio functions will be on the program. And Apple would plan to equip these new headphones with a new, more efficient chip.

But the main novelty might not be related to audio, but rather to health and wellness tracking. Indeed, sources have also been suggesting for a while now that Apple wants to integrate this tracking into wireless headphones. Thus, the AirPods Pro 2 could for example be equipped with sensors allowing monitoring of physical activities, or even temperature sensors for monitoring health.

But as usual, for the moment, this information is unofficial. And therefore, they should be considered with great caution.
