Elon Musk announces a price hike for Tesla’s autonomous all-wheel drive

The price of Tesla’s fully autonomous driving system will increase to $15,000 in North America, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced on Twitter on Sunday.

It will soon be necessary to pay $15,000 instead of $12,000, to acquire the fully autonomous driving system (Full Self-Driving) of Tesla cars, said Elon Musk. This increase will take effect from September 5.

The billionaire and CEO of the automaker, however, indicated that the current price will be maintained for orders placed before this date, but delivered later. it’s about the second increase price this year.

Collisions involving the Autopilot system

This announcement comes as the Tesla’s Autopilot systemmore limited than autonomous all-wheel drive, is under intense scrutiny from federal regulators looking to see if it is defective.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in July that it had examined nearly 200 accidents involving vehicles using the Autopilot system.

In a letter made public last Thursday, the institution thus asked the car manufacturer a series of camera questions and how they are used to control the driver’s attention.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave Tesla a September 19 deadline to answer most questions.

The electric vehicle manufacturer was also asked to provide “evidence justifying the period during which the driver is allowed not to touch the steering wheel before receiving a warning”, as well as information on the time that elapses if the driver does not react before receiving additional warnings.

As part of a further investigation regarding the company’s business practices, California’s Department of Motor Vehicles accused Tesla of having mislead consumers in false advertising about Autopilot and full self-driving.
