ELON Musk had a brief affair last fall with the wife of billionaire Google co-founder Sergey Brin, ending their long friendship, according to a report.
The alleged affair prompted Brin to file for divorce earlier this year and end the friendship between the tech billionaires, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing people familiar with the matter.
Musk is the richest person in the world, with an estimated fortune of $240 billion, while Brin ranks eighth in the world, with a fortune of $95 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
The two were longtime friends, with Musk claiming for years that he regularly crashed at Brin’s in Silicon Valley.
Tensions between the two men and their teams have increased in recent months, according to people familiar with the matter who told the Wall Street Journal.
Brin filed for divorce from Nicole Shanahan in January of this year, citing “irreconcilable differences,” according to filings in Santa Clara County Superior Court.
The divorce petition was filed several weeks after Brin learned of the brief affair, those sources told the WSJ.
Brin allegedly ordered his financial advisers to sell his personal investments in Musk’s companies, some of those people said, according to the report.
It is unclear how large these investments are or if there have been any sales yet.
At the time of the alleged affair in early December, Brin and his wife were said to have separated but were still living together, according to a person close to Ms Shanahan, the outlet reports.
In the divorce filing, Brin cited December 15, 2021 as the couple’s date of separation.
