WWE still dominates the new AEW in popularity online.
According to a new study by Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics, WWE garnered an 80.1% share of searches on Google among all wrestling promotions so far in 2022. While AEW is the second closest with 12 .4%, New Japan Pro Wrestling garnered almost 5% of all wrestling-related searches during the year.
No other promotion approached 2% of Google searches in 2022, with IMPACT Wrestling earning a 1.5% share, and ROH, NWA and MLW combining for a total of 1%.
Thurston’s report also showed that aEW has seen a steady gain in popularity online over the past 12 months.
Meanwhile, Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns was the most searched wrestling personality for the month of April 2022. Brock Lesnar, Steve Austin, Cody Rhodes and Triple H round out the Top 5.
