NEAR cryptocurrency drives blockchain technology in Kenya

To give impetus to the development of the blockchain in Kenya and more generally in Africa, the Kenyan Sankore community has entered into a partnership with the NEAR cryptocurrency. Together, the two parties plan to establish a hub in Kenya. NEAR is a Swiss ecosystem founded in 2017. It is also a foundation, a collective and a cryptocurrency. The center will be dedicated to continued blockchain innovation, education and talent development in Africa.

NEAR Foundation Partners with Sankore to Launch Regional Hub in Kenya

Near builds a multi-activity center

This collaboration will make it possible to set up a multi-activity center focused mainly on blockchain innovations. The hub will develop, among other things, events geared towards the cryptocurrency ecosystem. This will also act as an academy and offer incubation programs. Nairobi will host the headquarters. Nevertheless, the center will deploy its actions even in small towns and even beyond the Kenyan borders. The hub will be led by Kevin Imani, founder of the Sankore community.

For the education component, the team members have already begun to forge ties with local universities. They already offer workshops to students, some of whom have already received their developer certificate (certified NEAR). Kevin Imani says: We are excited to work with NEAR to educate and train talented individuals to become world-class blockchain developers. “.

Incubation of blockchain projects in Africa

The hub aims to be a talent pool and will also be an incubator. As such, his team will support blockchain project leaders. The Sankore community itself has already supported several forward-thinking programs using the NEAR protocol. Marieke Flament, CEO of the NEAR Foundation says: “We are excited about the potential of the African continent for blockchain solutions to drive innovation in development, education and talent.”

This project comes at a time when Africa is showing rapid adoption of cryptocurrency. This NEAR hub is not new. Other similar centers are established in many countries such as China or Ukraine. Each center operates as an independent local organization. Nevertheless, their missions remain fully in line with the actions and objectives of the foundation.

Conclusion

Through this hub, the NEAR foundation aims to democratize the blockchain. The center will also raise awareness and support this ecosystem by allocating grants for technology development and innovations. This hub is also key to onboarding users into the NEAR ecosystem to help build a multi-channel open web future.
