Syngenta Crop Protection launches a technology based on M2i’s pheromones, EXPLOYO™ Vit, to support winegrowers in France

  • EXPLOYOVit is a natural solution, based on pheromones, to be sprayed to improve the quality and yield of grapes and to control pests.

  • This technology is certified for organic farming and protects against harmful pests that threaten vine cultivation.

  • The collaboration with M2i underscores Syngenta Crop Protection’s commitment to providing farmers with more sustainable product and technology choices.

Basel, Switzerland, May 04, 2022–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Syngenta Crop Protection, a leader in innovation for organic agriculture, and M2i, a leading provider of pheromone-based crop protection solutions, are expanding their collaboration and launching EXPLOYO Vit, a new pheromone-based solution to help French winegrowers effectively manage vine pests that impact grape quality and yield. This technology targets one of the most harmful pests for winegrowers, the vine moth Lobesia botrana which feeds on grapes and infects crops with botrytis, a potentially deadly fungus that causes grapevine rot.

Authorized and certified for organic farming, EXPLOYO Vit is biobased and natural. It can be sprayed directly onto the vines and gives winegrowers greater flexibility to better manage their crop. Pheromones are natural signaling compounds that effectively control pests by interfering with their mating behaviors and preventing their reproduction. Because pheromones are non-toxic and species-specific, they help maintain the diversity and abundance of insects and pollinators.

French winegrowers will be the first to benefit from this new and sustainable solution. Wine is one of France’s most valuable agricultural products, accounting for around 15% of farm income. France produces 16% of all wine produced in the world and more than 300,000 jobs in the country are linked to the production and sale of wine.

After the launch of the market in France, EXPLOYO Vit will be rolled out to several wine-producing countries in Europe, including Spain, Portugal and Greece, over the next 12 months, subject to regulatory approval. The technology will be marketed in Latin America under the LOBESIA Pro Spray brand.®.

Corey Huck, Head of Global Biologicals at Syngenta Crop Protection, said, “Our collaboration with M2i is a strong example of our commitment to being the partner of choice for leading-edge biologicals technology providers. We are committed to advancing sustainable agriculture practices and we are excited to provide winemakers in different markets with a product that helps improve grape quality and control major vine pests.”

“M2i developed this innovation with the grower in mind – leveraging our expertise to deliver a fundamentally more user-friendly and flexible product,” said Philippe Guerret, co-founder and CEO of M2i. “We are delighted to see our collaboration with Syngenta entering a new phase with the launch of EXPLOYO Lives. At the same time, we continue to jointly evaluate and explore new product opportunities where we believe we can bring more value to growers.”
