Less than a month has passed since the first 6E Wifi boxes in France. It is already rumored that Wifi 7 is in preparation. In reality, Qualcomm, MediaTek and Broadcom have been working on the product in question for the past year. Qualcomm is currently testing its new chips with its customers. This is with the aim of bringing this next standard into our homes by 2023.
Qualcomm’s Wifi 7 modem chip offers a maximum speed of 33 Gbps
Each generation of Wifi brings its own improvements. Wifi 7 is moving towards simultaneous multilink operation. It is capable of supporting up to quad-band configurations. Qualcomm’s Networking Pro chipset operates in the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz frequency bands.
This new standard differs by using very wide channels of 320 MHz. This allows it to offer speeds much more than Wifi 6. The current generations, which are Wifi 6 and 6E, are limited to around 10 Gb/s. However, with Wifi 7, it is possible to reach transfer speeds of up to 33 Gb/s.
Qualcomm is also committed to better stability and low latency. This would make Wifi 7 an ideal solution for online gaming and future virtual reality products.
A new version capable of adapting to interference
Nick Kucharewski, senior vice president of Qualcomm, said these products can deliver high-speed, low-latency wireless links. This remains compatible for home mesh Wi-Fi and enterprise infrastructure with reliable performance. And this, even in the presence of proximity interfaces.
Another advantage concerns the doubling of the width of the channel. This indicates that the device will support more users. The manufacturer announces that up to 500 users will be able to connect to a single Wifi 7 channel.
These new chips are currently in the testing phase. The first routers using this technology are likely to arrive next year. It should be noted that your electronic gadget should support this version in order to take full advantage of it.
Earlier this year, MediaTek also revealed that it is testing its Wifi 7 technology. As of now, no word is said about the official release date. The final version would probably land before 2024. In the meantime, the two companies claim that the first equipment with this new standard would arrive from 2023.
